To present your team’s evidence-based recommendation on your team’s topic, please follow these instructions.
a. Describe what the recommendation is in a single sentence in bold. The recommendation must begin
with an action verb, and succinctly state an action that the manager can take to be efficient or effective in his or her work. (11 points)
A good
example: Make employees read and
sign the company’s code of ethics before they fill out an expense report.
A bad
example: People would be more honest with expense reports if we make them sign
first.
b. Start a new paragraph to summarize scientific evidence
supporting the recommendation. The summary must include a short description of
the scientific method used to construct the supporting evidence (e.g., a
controlled experiment, a matched-pair archival analysis). The connection
between evidence summarized and the recommendation made above must be logical
and clear. You need to provide sufficient details of the methodology to
convince your reader of the scientific rigor of the evidence. Please reference
materials covered in lectures, readings, videos, or other sources when arguing
for the scientific rigor of the study (e.g., describe the experimental
treatment, the control variables, and the random assignment of an experiment to
illustrate that the experiment is done well and free of obvious biases.) You must follow guidelines available from the Week 1 instructor lecture, and the reading How to evaluate psychological sciences for organizations to evaluate the scientific literature that you are using as the basis of your recommendation. (13 points)
c. Start another new paragraph to discuss the importance of
this recommendation by comparing it to common wisdom, potential hunches, or
other alternative practices that may be commonly thought to be useful without
this scientific evidence. Explain to the reader what myths or misconceptions
are clarified with the scientific evidence you have reviewed here, and
demonstrate that your recommendation has the potential to be established as a
“best practice” for the manager. You can cite a related article from credible sources recommended for this course as your examples or comparisons. The connection
between evidence summarized and the recommendation made above must be logical
and clear. (13 points)
d. Finally, the last paragraph should point out potential
weaknesses in the evidence, potential limitations with generalizing the
evidence (e.g., external validity), or practical constraints on implementing
the recommendation. These discussions must be based on our weekly lectures or
discussion topics. (13 points)
Your writing must incorporate materials from credible sources, including your textbook, EIA materials, and other resources recommended by the instructor. Please cite at least one source from the textbook, and two sources from the other materials. You should also cite additional relevant sources outside the course materials as the scientific basis of your recommendation (6 points)
You must include at least one image (2 points) and one URL link (2 points)
